The Buddha Day(Vesak) in full-swing preparation in Thailand

The Chairman of the International Organizing Committee for the United Nations Day of Vesak, the Most Venerable Professor Dr.Phra Dharmakosajarn, said Vesak Day will be celebrated in Thailand on 31st May 2007. This year, we are also celebrating another auspicious occasion, that of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 80th Birthday Anniversary. 

The celebrations organized by Mahachulalongkorn University will be held in the International Buddhist Conference at Buddhamonthon, at Nakhon Pathom and at UNCC in Bangkok from the 26th to 29th May 2550 (2007). It will include a lot of activities for instance, panel discussions : “Perspectives on Buddhsim and Good Governance”, “Buddhist Contribution to Good Governance and Development” and workshops in various topics : “Buddhist Meditation and Human Development”, “Dissemination of Buddhism through Modern Technology”. 

In this conference Mahachulalongkorn University will present to the world some royal duties, especially the promotion towards the development of “Sufficiency Economy”. Speeches by the Patriarch, Mahanayaka and Buddhist leaders from various countries will be delivered.
                   
“We are preparing for the Vesak Conference and to date, we have around sixty countries responding, for example, China, Vietnam, Japan, Sri Lanka, Australia, Myanmar. At the closing of the celebrations on May 29th, we will have a Dhammayatra Candlelight Procession at Buddhamonthon participated by monks and lay Buddhists from the three Buddhist traditions gathered here,” the most venerable said.
