Thailand Prepares for International Buddhist Conference

Chairman of the Joint International Organizing Committee for the United Nations Day of Vesak Most Venerable Professor Phra Dharmakosajarn says that Vesak Day will be celebrated in Thailand on 26 to 29 May 2007 and this year the country is preparing for the International Buddhist Conference.

Phra Dharmakosajarn, who is the Rector of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, also says that the 2007 International Buddhist Conference will celebrate His Majesty the King's 80th birthday anniversary.

The conference, the fourth of its kind, will be held at Buddhamonthon in Nakhon Pathom province and at the United Nations Convention Center in Bangkok on 26-29 May 2007. Major topics of discussion and workshops include Perspectives on Buddhism and Good Governance, Buddhist Contribution to Good Governance and Development, Buddhist Meditation and Human Development, and Dissemination of Buddhism through Modern Technology.

At the conference, the University will also introduce His Majesty the King's sufficiency economy philosophy to the participants.

More than 1,000 Buddhist leaders, scholars, and members of Buddhist organizations from about 60 countries are expected to take part in the event.
