Worldwide Buddhists Having Unanimous Resolution to Establish International Association of Buddhist University, Headquarter in Thailand, Phra Dharmakos

Today, 29th May 2007 at 14.00 P.M., Phra Dharmkosajarn, the Rector of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, President of International Organizing Committee of the Fourth International UN Day of Vesak 2007 with 1,300 Buddhist monks and layones worldwide having participated herein said at the United Nations Conference Center as follows.

Phra Dharmkosajarn revealed the results of 6 Group Conferences that the good governance is not only the principle of government but also the principle of living in daily life. Furthermore, there should be the Worldwide Buddhist Website to log in for the crucial information on the Buddha's teachings. Besides, Buddhists worldwide should pay a special attention to the promotion and strengthening the Buddhist arts, not only preserving but also the security of Buddhism when it has been misused.

He further said that Buddhists worldwide have a great pleasure to hear that this conference was organized in honor of the Thai king's 80th Birthday Anniversary. His Majesty King Bhumiphol is the model who strongly applies Buddhism for the development of his country based on good governance successfully and this has been adopted worldwide. It was also unanimously resolved to establish the International Association of Buddhists Universities with its Headquarter at Mahachulalongkomrajavidyalaya University, consisting of over 80 Buddhist universities worldwide. Phra Dharmkosajarn was elected its President. Moreover, Vietnamese Government and Vietnamese Buddhists were considered to be the host of the next International Conference on the UN Day of Vesak 2008. Finally, the assembly had unanimous resolution to enhance China to organize the World Buddhist Forum 2008.

This International Buddhist Conference in Bangkok was sponsored by the Royal Thai Government and Thai Sangha Executive Council in honor of His Majesty King Bhuriphol's 80th Birthday Anniversary to consolidate mutual understanding and cooperation among different Buddhist tradi~ons, organizations and individuals based on the Buddha's teachings of wisdom and compaSsion to strongly strengthen peace in the world.
