  His Holiness Somdet Phra Buddhacharya to preside over the opening ceremony of the United Nations Day of Vesak in 2008, Buddhist Era 2551

          His Holiness Somdet Phra Buddhacharya, President of the Executive Committee for the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand has agreed to preside over the opening ceremony of the United Nations Day of Vesak, the internationally important day of the United Nations Organization "UNDV Celebration for Asia and the Pacific 2008" on Sunday May 18, 2551 at the United Nations ESCAP Hall (UNESCAP) in Bangkok and also as the Chairperson of the community of monks at the international candle lighting ceremony in Putthamonthon, Nakhon Pathom.

           This year 2551, Mahachulalongkhonrajavidayalaya University accepts an assignment from the Supreme Sangha Council and the government of Thailand in taking the responsibility of the arrangement. The Mahasangha, other Buddhist organizations from 30 countries and the participants numbering about 1,500 members will participate in the meeting to be held at the ESCAP Hall (UNESCAP) of the United Nations Organization. At the meeting His Holiness Somdet Phra Buddhacharya, President of the Executive Committee for the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand and the Prime Minister will give welcome speeches and open the ceremony. After that in the afternoon they will proceed to go for a meeting at the conference hall in Phutthamonthon, Nakhon Pathom. There will be live broadcasting on Internet and Live Television from NBT.
